Small affordable art fair in Malvern – outcome of the silent auction!
This art event held at Malvern School of Art last week was a great success. Many Worcestershire Open Studios artists, myself included, contributed small pieces of original artwork to help raise funds for the Malvern branch of Amnesty International while also promoting the main Worcestershire Open Studios event to be held from Saturday 25 August to Monday 27 August inclusive.
Visitors were able to view the art in the course of a week and place bids if they wished by signing up on a form under each piece of artwork with the minimum bid set at just £15. The identity of the artists was unknown until the final Saturday when – after a last opportunity to place bids by 4.00 p.m. – all was revealed!
Around 70% of the pieces were sold, of which several went for more than the minimum bid. I was very pleased to note that my two pieces were among the items sold with one of them even attracting 3 bids!
The Worcestershire Open Studios organizing team considers the silent auction a success and will almost certainly hold a similar event next year. The organizers worked hard promoting the event to the artists, collecting the items, mounting them all identically for a consistently professional look, assembling the exhibition at the location, organizing the Saturday afternoon reception, handling payments on the day and then later contacting other bidders my telephone… I really appreciate all their hard work and commitment – so impressed!
Here’s one of my pieces created with mixed media including acrylic paint, acrylic inks and collage.
